I’m currently taking on new pupils for the 2024-25 school year. I offer one-to-one tuition online, and I also do tutorials in-person near Edinburgh University’s main campus or King’s Buildings campus in the following subjects:
- National 5/Higher/Advanced Higher Mathematics
- GCSE/A Level Mathematics

My approach
Maths is not a spectator sport
This is what my lecturers and supervisors told me many times, capturing the idea that maths is not something you read and learn about, it’s something you do. Thus my aim is to help students do maths, rather than to have them memorise some arbitrary facts or watch me doing maths. Tutorials are centred around the student solving problems, and I encourage students to think not only about what they’re doing, but also why they’re doing it. I try to help them understand that the rules and equations they’ve learned haven’t been plucked out of thin air but are connected to other things that they already know.
I also love drawing graphs, pictures, diagrams, and anything else that helps bring a concept to life - I find this helps people build their intuition and understand the meaning behind the abstract symbols they’re working with.
About me
I’ve been tutoring since 2020 and have found it so rewarding seeing young people overcome their anxiety around and feel really confident solving problems. Although I have tutored a bit of physics, most of my experience is in maths. I know that maths is such a daunting subject for so many people but it’s a field I love and I hope I can help students see how satisfying it can be.
I’m about to start studying for a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, having completed my bachelor’s in Mathematics at the University of Glasgow in 2023 and then working for a year. If you’re interested, you can read more here.
